Chelsea have sensationally sacked Andre Villas-Boas, so Italian Roberto Di Matteo will be in charge for their Champions League clash with Napoli.
The Stamford Bridge side announced the decision this afternoon, meaning the Portuguese tactician failed to complete a season at the helm.
He was axed after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion and just three Premier League victories in the last 12 rounds.
Former Chelsea and Lazio midfielder Di Matteo has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
This means he will be on the bench when Chelsea welcome Napoli for the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 encounter on March 14.
Napoli won the first leg 3-1 at the Stadio San Paolo.
“Unfortunately the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season,” read a statement on the club website.
“The club is still competing in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League, and we aim to remain as competitive as possible on all fronts.
“With that in mind, we felt our only option was to make a change at this time.”
