Palermo will be without striker Mauricio Pinilla for two months after he underwent surgery for a fractured metatarsal.
The Chilean hitman suffered the stress fracture to the fifth metatarsal in his left foot over the Christmas break.
He had a consultation with a specialist in Rome today and surgery was performed to stabilise the fracture.
According to the official Palermo website, Pinilla should be out of action for around six weeks and can return to the field in March.
It means there are only two strikers available for tomorrow's Serie A game, Fabrizio Miccoli and Massimo Maccarone, against Sampdoria.
The injury could also prompt Palermo's rethink over their plans to sell Maccarone in the January transfer window.
Palermo squad: Benussi, Brichetto, Sirigu; Andelkovic, Balzaretti, Bovo, Cassani, Darmian, Garcia, Goian, Munoz; Bacinovic, Ilicic, Kasami, Kurtic, Liverani, Migliaccio, Nocerino, Pastore, Rigoni; Maccarone, Miccoli
