Fiorentina boss Sinisa Mihajlovic continued the war of words with Adrian Mutu. “It's not true that he wasn't in the squad, nor did we hug to put it all behind us.”
The Romanian stormed out of training on Wednesday amid a transfer dispute and accusations have flown between Mutu, his agent Giovanni Becali and the club.
“I had a row with Adrian when we were both players, but then formed an excellent rapport,” said Mihajlovic.
“As far as I know, that rapport has been suspended for 10 days. It's too early to talk about anything else. I rang Becali yesterday and he didn't answer, so I called Adrian and got him to hand over the phone.
“I told Becali that, despite what he said in that Press conference, I've got guts. Plenty of them. It's not true that Mutu wasn't in the squad for Bologna, as he was going to play, but left before the training session and I couldn't bring him along.
“Yesterday was the Orthodox Christmas and he wished me well. That is all. I told him what I thought and nothing more, so it's not true that we hugged to put it all behind us, which is what I read in the papers. Today is Mutu's birthday, so I send him my best wishes, even if I doubt he'll have a happy one.”
The Viola are hovering above the relegation zone and must get a result against Brescia on Sunday.
“I don't think this whole affair will weigh on the team. We want to resume from our second half performance against Bologna and carry on improving. It's a difficult time, but we have faith in our abilities and I'm sure the results will come.
“I don't feel that we are in a fight to avoid relegation, even if the reality is we only have 20 points under our belts.”
