Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone is confident the fans are behind him and the team “will get back on track.”
The patron had threatened to sell up and walk away after fan protests in the wake of Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini's departure.
“Rumours circulate, some of them used, elaborated upon and blown up by the media,” said Garrone.
“It's one thing for fair and constructive criticism, but quite another just to attack people for the sake of it. It is typical of this city to constantly pile on pressure.”
The President also had a special meeting with the team to give them a morale-boosting speech.
“What I said is a secret and remains between us. The majority of the fans are behind me and I deserve their faith, the same way they deserve my efforts for them.”
As the derby was snowed off, it will be played on Wednesday after their clash with Bologna this weekend.
“These are going to be very important games. I am sure that the team will get back on track, as it has the capabilities and the potential.”
