Inter want Ranocchia in January

Inter would apparently like to sign Genoa defender Andrea Ranocchia in January following Walter Samuel's potentially season-ending injury.

The Nerazzurri already own half of the 22-year-old's contract and were planning to make a permanent move for him in the summer.

La Gazzetta understands the operation would cost another €10m, although it remains to be seen whether Genoa President Enrico Preziosi will be prepared to do business mid-season.

If Inter can't exploit their good relationship with Genoa, Marco Branca will turn his attention to the Premier League where a number of good stop-gap solutions are to be found.

Daniel Agger, Gary Cahill and Brede Hangeland are all on Inter's shortlist, but Ranocchia remains the club's No 1 priority.

It was confirmed yesterday that Samuel tore his cruciate ligaments against Brescia and faces a long spell on the sidelines.
