Genoa full-back Domenico Criscito has wished Italy a happy birthday on the 150th anniversary of its unification.
The 24-year-old drew a curious comparison between his football club and his country.
"Come on, let's say it. Genoa is part of Italian history. The club has almost covered the same path.
"Genoa are 118-years-old and the unification of Italy is 150. The difference is minimal.
"Ours is a country of saints, poets, explorers and… football fans.
"Supporting Genoa is a lifestyle choice because if you are a Genoa fan you have pride to sell and can even celebrate a relegation.
"As an Italy and Genoa player, I would like to add one thing: Happy Birthday Italy."
