Edy Reja has taken the pressure off Mauro Zarate after Lazio missed a penalty at the Stadio Friuli.
Today's 2-1 defeat against Udinese sees the Biancocelesti drop out of the Champions League places.
“Penalties can be missed,” said the Coach of Zarate's embarrassing meek chip into the arms of Samir Handanovic.
“Zarate thought the goalkeeper was going to pick a corner and go down, but that wasn't the case. If he had scored, the game could've changed, as we were sharp and Udinese beginning to get tired.
“Mauro has played a great deal this season, as he can often decide a match. He has the characteristics to always take people on and create space in attack.
“It's true that sometimes means he slows down the tempo, but he is an important player for us.”
Lazio were 2-0 down at half-time, but after Gabriele Angella's red card and missed Zarate penalty they threatened an equaliser late on.
“We made several mistakes in defence and Udinese punished us,” continued Reja.
“Apart from that, I think it was a balanced encounter. They had four very similar attacking moves and with a little more concentration we could've avoided that damage.
“We've got to give our all in the next two games to finish as high up the table as possible. Unfortunately when you don't get the full points against the big clubs, it means you have some limitations.”
