Piacenza have formally requested the postponement of tomorrow's Serie B relegation play-out amid allegations of match-fixing.
The scandal struck Italian football this week with 16 arrests, including ex-Italy and Lazio striker Beppe Signori, over a betting ring.
It includes several Serie B clubs, among them Piacenza, who are set to take part in the first leg of the relegation play-out with Albinoleffe on Saturday.
“We have sent a formal request to the FIGC to suspend the play-out,” revealed general manager Maurizio Riccardi.
“We are incapable of respecting the rules set out by the sporting justice system.”
This is because some of Piacenza's players are under investigation and could be deferred to the Disciplinary Commission in the next few days.
Piacenza have complained they don't know if fielding these players would open them up to further penalties in the play-out.
“We are all glued to the television to understand what's happening. It's incredible that we could field players who in three days might be suspended.
“This situation is not just about Piacenza. We know the sporting justice system has to be quick and that means it can also make mistakes.”
