New Sampdoria boss Gianluca Atzori says he won't put pressure on Angelo Palombo to stay with the club.
It's unclear whether the captain will still be at Marassi next term after the outfit were relegated from Serie A.
"He is an extraordinary player who is part of the national set-up," Atzori told TMW. "He'd be of use in any side.
"However, it won't be up to me to convince him to stay here as he'll have to feel that he wants to remain.
"You need motivated players in Serie B and he may have to face the risk of losing his place in the Italy squad."
The midfielder is the club's most wanted player after the port based side were surprise Serie A casualties this term.
Reports have linked him with a move to Napoli, whose boss Walter Mazzarri has worked with him in the past at Doria.
The Champions League qualifiers are not alone though and will face competition from Inter and Fiorentina.
