Moratti: Sneijder? Just talk

Inter President Massimo Moratti has cooled speculation that Wesley Sneijder is on his way to Manchester United.

Present at the club's pre-season training retreat in Pinzolo, the Nerazzurri chief was questioned on whether Sneijder would remain.

"I've been asking the same thing," he smiled. "But I hope that he does stay.

"I'm reading of their [Manchester United] interest from the newspapers, but I don't think there is anything new to report from inside the club.

"You read a lot of things in the papers which suggest that someone has already joined Real Madrid, for example, and then it turns out that it isn't true.

"There are a lot of rumours around, but not a lot of money."

Sneijder's future was placed into some doubt following the arrival of new boss Gian Piero Gasperini and his 3-4-3 system.

"Gasperini is trying a few things out that seem very interesting. He's showing the right character and a lot of professionalism at the same time."

Moratti was also excited by the arrival of Argentine youngster Ricky Alvarez from Velez Sarsfield.

"I like the left foot of Alvarez," the oil baron added. "He has the characteristics that fans will like, but, most importantly, will be of use to our style of play.

"I've seen that he can be used in a number of positions. He's a player that can make history with the club."

The Inter patron was also inevitably asked for his opinion on the Italian Football Federation's decision to not strip Inter of the 2006 championship.

"I saw it as a normal consequence, seeing as they could only act within their jurisdiction. Their response was obligatory and right."
