Del Neri: 'Play should've stopped'

Gigi Del Neri insists the game in Poland should've been called off amid a snowstorm, but concedes “we weren't eliminated here.”

The 1-1 draw away to Lech Poznan was their fifth in as many rounds, so Juventus crashed out of the Europa League.

“We did everything we possibly could tonight, wasting five or six scoring opportunities,” said the Coach.

“We deserved to win. It was absolutely not a ‘regular' game and play should've been stopped in these conditions, as you couldn't even see the lines on the pitch.

“With different weather, we probably would've won and even in this state we battled to the end.”

The match almost didn't go ahead at all when temperatures hit -11C at kick-off and conditions only deteriorated as a snowstorm hit the stadium.

This result and Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Salzburg, including a Mario Balotelli brace, doomed the Bianconeri to a group phase exit.

“It's a shame, but this was not the decisive result, though. We weren't eliminated here and should've done better in previous matches,” confessed Del Neri.

Juve have drawn all five of their games in Group A.

“There are regrets, as we wanted to do well in this competition. Unfortunately football is strange. In any case, without midweek games we can now hope to recover a few more injured players.”
