It’s reported Pepe Reina rejected a one-year extension to his Napoli contract.
The goalkeeper is out of contract next summer, and doesn’t want to go into this season without certainty over his future.
Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis said this week that the Spaniard wouldn’t be offered a new deal, but Rai is reporting that an offer was put on the table for a one-year extension.
However, the wages on offer were deemed too low and the deal was rejected by Reina, disappointing the club.
Napoli considered the very act of offering a deal to be a compromise on their part, given that Reina will turn 35 in August.
The goalkeeper has been linked with a reunion with Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.
