Rastelli: 'Sardegna Arena 13th man'

Massimo Rastelli hopes the new Sardegna Arena “can be our 13th man” when Cagliari host Crotone on an historic occasion.

It kicks off at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

Today will be the unveiling of the Sardegna Arena, which is to be their home for the next four years while the Stadio Sant’Elia is demolished and rebuilt.

“In these 127 days, the construction workers have done an extraordinary job. We all want to thank them for making the Sardegna Arena into a reality,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We’ve had two good performances so far this season, but want our first victory to be on our home turf. The sensation we get just from warming up there is that the crowd is the 12th man, but the stadium can be our 13th man. It really fires you up.

“I hope all the fans come together and work with us for the good of Cagliari. It’s no coincidence that we had such a strong home record last season.

“There are matches where the points are worth double and this is one of them. Even if it’s a celebration in the stands, it’ll be a battle on the pitch and the lads must start moving up the table.”

Cagliari are expected to start new signing Leonardo Pavoletti, who arrived from Napoli, but Gregory van der Wiel and Federico Melchiorri are still out injured.

“We must do well to give Pavoletti the kind of service he can thrive on. We’ll slowly make the right modifications to ensure Leo’s qualities emerge.”
