Cancelo sets top-four target

Inter’s Joao Cancelo believes his side have the qualities to secure a top-four Serie A finish this season.

After starting the month on top of the table, Luciano Spalletti’s team have fallen off the pace following a four-match winless run in the League.

A goalless draw with Lazio has left the Nerazzurri seven points off leaders Napoli.

At the half-way point of the season, it now appears Inter are now locked in a three-way battle with Roma and Lazio for Serie A’s final two Champions League places.

“The team has the quality to finish in the top four of the table,” Portuguese defender Cancelo insisted.

“But our rivals are very strong. Undoubtedly we have the qualities to do it, but I don’t know what will happen.

“Inter are a great team and we want to fight for a place in the Champions League.

“I am happy with my performance on a personal level, but the important thing is the team.”

Cancelo believes the stalemate with Lazio was a fair result on the balance of play.

“Lazio are a very strong team, I thing it was the correct result.

“We are a very united group, we want to reach our target.”

Inter, who have also suffered the recent disappointment of Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of Milan, next face Fiorentina.
