The website explains a move would be ‘perfect’ as he knows Marco Giampaolo’s methods, having broken through under the Coach at Cesena during the 2010-11 campaign.

A meeting between Giaccherini’s agent and the Blucerchiati’s board would have been scheduled for Monday, with CM noting they are his “favoured destination”.

However, Samp would only be looking to bring in the former Italy international on a dry loan until the end of the season, while he “doesn’t seem willing” to return to Napoli after a disappointing 18 months at the San Paolo.

Therefore, Il Secolo XIX is not ruling Chievo out of the race as the Flying Donkeys could offer a loan with an option to buy, depending on whether they stay up.

Nonetheless, the Ligurians may propose a deal that becomes permanent if they qualify for European competition or he plays a certain number of matches.
