Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic believes his side can overturn their Europa League deficit against Borussia Dortmund but warns they must stop making mistakes.

The Slovenian playmaker scored twice as La Dea went 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park, only for Michy Batshuayi’s double to give the German outfit a slender first leg advantage ahead of next week’s return in Bergamo.

“We played a good match against a great team, but it wasn’t enough,” Ilicic commented afterwards.

“We conceded three goals by committing errors. It was too easy for them but now we need to think about winning the return match at home.

“The important thing is the team, I scored but we didn’t win.”

A 1-0 win would be enough for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team to progress to the last 16 on away goals, but Ilicic says his side must stop making errors.

“I hope that at Reggio Emilia one can be enough. We can get through, we need to believe, given that we are doing well.

“We need to cut out the mistakes. Borussia have great players but so do we.”
