Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli wants Coach Rino Gattuso to remain at the club next season.
The former Rossoneri midfielder made the step up from the Primavera team to take charge of the first team following the sacking of Vincenzo Montella.
After a difficult start, the 40-year-old has presided over an unbeaten start to 2018 for the San Siro club.
And despite his appointment only being on an interim basis until the end of the season, Mirabelli now wants Gattuso to oversee pre-season preparations for the next campaign.
“We never spoke about him as an interim, I was convinced that he could give us something important,” he said ahead of Milan’s Europa League last 32 second leg with Ludogorets.
“Otherwise, we would not have made the decision to appoint him.
“He took on a very difficult situation, there were some problems for him.
“I want to see him working with this team from the first day of pre-season. They can express themselves at an even higher level.”
Milan hold a 3-0 lead in the tie ahead of tonight’s second leg against the Bulgarian side.
“We are calm, Rino a little less because he is intense as always.
“For him, it doesn’t matter whether we’re facing them today or in the first-leg, he is always the same.”
Mirabelli is also encouraged by the recent apparent thawing of relations between goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma and the San Siro fan base.
“His gesture to the fans was a nice thing, he is a symbol of Milan and Italian football.
“He is an important player for us, he knows it. It’s important that he is loved in the same way as when he started wearing this shirt.”
