The Nerazzurri captain’s wife and agent, Wanda, said this week that two clubs had shown interested in the striker in January.

Now Corriere dello Sport is reporting that the clubs in question were PSG and Real Madrid, with both prepared to offer Icardi a bumper contract.

The French club are willing to offer €40m for a five-year contract, as they expect Edinson Cavani to leave in the summer.

Madrid, meanwhile, are looking to replace Karim Benzema, and Icardi is one of the options they are considering.

Los Merengues could offer a five-year deal worth €45m in total, with the Argentine retaining 30-50 per cent of his image rights.

The other options being considered by the Spanish giants are Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
