Former Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes claims “Inter wanted me in January, but Lokomotiv Moscow didn’t let me go.”

Fernandes is no stranger to European football, having played for the likes of Benfica, Everton and Besiktas, and he recently scored a hat-trick to send Lokomotiv into the Europa League last 16 at the expense of Mario Balotelli’s Nice.

“Inter wanted me in January, it’s true, but Lokomotiv didn’t let me go,” the 32-year-old told A Bola.

“Inter wanted me in January, it’s true, but Lokomotiv didn’t let me go,” the 32-year-old told A Bola.

“I’m happy to still be here and I’m ready to give my all. We have to win the Russian League. Inter in June? I like to look long term, not now.

“We’ve started talking about my renewal, and there’s the possibility that we can reach an agreement.

“We’ll talk about it in more detail after our upcoming matches with Nice and Spartak. Future in Portugal? Honestly I don’t think so, I’ve just turned 32 and it seems complicated.

“However, with all due respect to other teams, I’d only play in Benfica’s jersey. They’re the club with which I won and grew up.”
