Hellas followed up their win over Torino with a 1-0 success in the Derby della Scala thanks to Antonio Caracciolo’s finish from six yards.

“This victory keeps us hanging on in the table, it gives a sense of consistency and we can look forward to the next few games with more enthusiasm and confidence. We’ll see what happens,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am satisfied with the spirit of my team, because Gian Filippo Felicioli had his first Serie A start and worked so hard, remained focused throughout. There’s a great atmosphere within the locker room, the objective is within our reach and we believe in it.

“It’s a team of young players and at times, perhaps too often, I have to fire them up from the touchline to keep them focused.”

Moise Kean failed a fitness test, so Alessio Cerci, Mattia Valoti and suspended Romulo missed out, but Verona still got the better of more experienced Chievo.

“Lately I have seen the squad seem more convinced of their capabilities, we signed some eager players in January who also gave us a boost. Felicioli has been impressing me in training for a while, that’s what training is for, to know when someone is ready.

“I need everyone to contribute and will make my choices on a game by game basis. That is my strategy and it is paying off. It’s all wide open, the more teams in the balance, the better, and we must be ready to push until the final game.

“Cerci is so, so important for his talent, quality, experience and the order he can bring to the team. Bruno Petkovic is working very hard, even if he isn’t scoring goals, and when the team wins, it doesn’t matter who scores, even a defender.”

It was centre-back Caracciolo who found the net this evening from a corner.

“It was such a good finish, at first I didn’t think it was him!”
