Gian Piero Gasperini felt Atalanta took the right approach to Juventus and analysed the differences between the Bianconeri and Napoli.

The Orobici were beaten 2-0 in Turin by Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi goals, although the second arrived after Gianluca Mancini’s double yellow card.

“We often got into dangerous positions and kept the game open for long periods, but we lacked the finish,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“We often got into dangerous positions and kept the game open for long periods, but we lacked the finish,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s difficult to score goals against Juventus, but we created the situations to do it. I am satisfied.”

This result sent Juventus four points clear of Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.

“Comparing the teams depends on when you face them. We recently had good results against Napoli and they are more unpredictable, whereas Juve are always very focused and more difficult to break down. They are two great teams with different characteristics.

“If you sit back against Juve and only allow them to attack, they will score sooner or later. Many tried with a defensive approach here and lost anyway, so we stuck with our usual attitude. Against Juve or Napoli, you have to take them on and be aggressive, hoping for something to go your way.”

Atalanta qualified for Europe for the first time in 28 years and reached the Round of 32, unlucky to go out against Borussia Dortmund, but they are now aiming to reach the Europa League again.

“At the start it wasn’t among our objectives, but I always said we’d wait to see where we were in March. We go forward with confidence and will give it a go.”
