Ciro Immobile admits the pain of Italy’s World Cup failure will be felt ‘even more’ when the tournament kicks off in June.
Immobile was part of the Italy team that crashed out to Sweden in the playoffs, and the Lazio striker revealed the extent of the pain caused by the Azzurri’s no-show.
“We still have bad memories of it and we’re sorry for what happened,” he said from Coverciano, reports Calciomercato.com.
“I think we’ll realise it even more when the World Cup starts. It’s a bad time in our careers but above all for ourselves. It was an opportunity to redeem our performance at the 2014 World Cup.
“Do I think about that night? I’ve played twice at San Siro since then, and as soon as I went on the field, all I could think about was that evening. It was a shock.”
