Whose Juventus reputation emerged relatively unscathed from the Real Madrid masterclass in our Football Italia player ratings?

Gianluigi Buffon – 5

Couldn’t do much about Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal that he stabbed home in the third minute and was nowhere near Toni Kroos’s strike that nearly broke the crossbar. Made a decent save on Lucas Vazquez’s effort but just had to stand and admire Ronaldo’s second. Couldn’t prevent Marcelo’s goal and again had to watch as Mateo Kovacic’s shot hit the crossbar.

Mattia Di Sciglio – 5

Was caught napping on Isco’s give-and-go that led to the opening goal, perhaps not expecting the quick start. He recovered and defended well after that until everything went wrong for the Old Lady.

Andrea Barzagli – 4

Had a torrid night the last time he faced Real Madrid in Cardiff and began this game the same way by failing to pick up the most dangerous goalscorer on the planet. He and Giorgio Chiellini were left bamboozled on the third goal and he almost gifted Madrid a fourth.

Giorgio Chiellini – 4

Along with his partner Barzagli he was guilty of not sticking with Ronaldo on the opening goal. Had a glorious chance to head in from a corner but must have closed his eyes as it flew towards him. Then made a howler as he and Buffon had some miscommunication that almost lead to an own goal before Ronaldo’s magical bicycle kick made it 2-0.

Kwadwo Asamoah – 6

Defended well covering round the back on a couple of occasions but added nothing going forward.

Douglas Costa – 4

A relative spectator, he should have been charged admission to watch as the game go on around him.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 5.5

Started off brightly and was getting box-to-box, made some good tackles and strode forward with the ball but then faded as the game got away from Juve.

Sami Khedira – 5

Had a good old battle with his Germany teammate Kroos but came off second best and was replaced in the second half.

Alex Sandro – 5

Played more as an auxiliary left-back than the left winger he was supposed to be, and was pushed back into a defensive role by Marcelo. Finished the in defence anyway when Mario Mandzukic came on for Asamoah.

Gonzalo Higuain – 5.5

Saw his point-blank shot well saved by Keylor Navas after he started the game looking lively, disappointing after that. Had a strong effort well saved by Navas again late in the 90 minutes.

Paulo Dybala – 4

Booked for diving just before half time when he probably could have stayed on his feet and got a shot away. Received his second yellow and his marching orders half way through the second half for a high foot on Dani Carvajal.

Substitutes:

Mario Mandzukic – 5

Replaced Asamoah and won a few aerial battles as Juve got desperate and panicked to try to get something out of the game.

Blaise Matuidi – 5

Came on for Douglas Costa, probably to make sure the scoreline didn’t get any higher.

Juan Cuadrado – 5

Came on for Khedira for the last 15 minutes and saw a little bit of the ball down the right but was unable cause Marcelo any trouble. Missed a sitter at the end.
