Giorgio Chiellini claims he ‘wouldn’t have said anything’ if one of his teammates ended up touching Michael Oliver during Real Madrid-Juventus.

Chiellini’s remarks come after Gianluigi Buffon was sent off for throwing himself at referee Oliver after Madrid were awarded an injury-time penalty, which ultimately put Juve’s comeback in vein and sent Los Blancos into the Champions League semi-finals.

“It seemed impossible to give such a crazy penalty from the pitch,” the defender told Corriere dello Sport.

“Putting your hands on someone takes a moment. If that happened, I wouldn’t have said anything to my teammates. It was a huge effort not to go any further.

“Buffon’s red card? It was madness, something that was way over the top. At best, he should’ve sent off Benatia.

“We weren’t a bit penalised, we felt massacred. It’s a shame because, with Barcelona out, two Italians in the semi-finals would’ve been a great thing.

“That said, I'm proud to be part of this immense team: we played a game that’ll remain in history.”
