Inter will reportedly pursue a double deal for Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic and Sporting CP’s William Carvalho if they qualify for the Champions League.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter have already re-established contact with Kovacic’s camp, three years after selling the Croat to Madrid for €29m against their wishes.

The midfielder has won two Champions Leagues with Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu but has struggled to hold down a first-team place, and the newspaper believes there may be scope for Los Blancos to recoup what they paid.

Il Corriere adds the Nerazzurri are neither ‘giving up the track’ that leads to Carvalho, who was recently dropped by Sporting.

However, they would not be able to afford his release clause, which is upwards of €45m and expires in June, giving the Portuguese side more leverage in the transfer market.
