According to Cadena Cope, the club directors in their crisis meeting this week had decided to remove the tactician if he lost against relegation-threatened Levante.
A 2-1 defeat on Friday evening means Sevilla run the serious risk of missing out on European qualification.
He has been replaced by Joaquin Caparros.

This is Montella’s second sacking of the campaign, as he was fired by Milan on November 27 and took the Sevilla job in December.
The 43-year-old had 28 games on the Sevilla bench, resulting in 11 wins, seven draws and 10 defeats.
His side scored 37 goals, conceded 44 and had an average of 1.43 points per game during his tenure.
