Former referee Graziano Cesari insists Daniele Orsato “got InterJuventus wrong, but he’s not corrupt or in bad faith.”

Orsato has been lambasted in the media since the controversial 3-2 Bianconeri victory at San Siro on Saturday evening.

He gave a straight red card to Matias Vecino after viewing his challenge on Mario Mandzukic using VAR, then failed to give Miralem Pjanic a second booking.

Mediaset Premium pundit and former referee Cesari has been amongst the most vocal of critics, saying Orsato’s performance in the game deserved “two out of ten” and he “ruined” the fixture.

However, after reports Orsato’s home is under police surveillance following threats, Cesari wanted to make his position clear.

“Orsato is profoundly disappointed and upset, as he got it wrong on a big appointment of his career. Orsato is not a bad referee by any means, he had very important matches like Inter-Napoli, Torino-Juve, Napoli-Juve, last year the derbies of Milan and Rome.

“He got it wrong on the night, that’s all. He is not useless, he is not corrupt, he is not in bad faith or the servant of some higher power.

“I cannot stay silent when someone is crucified like this.”
