“Compared to this time last week, we’re closer to the Europa League, but we’re not there yet. We’ve got to cling on to that train until we can buy a ticket,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It’s going to be an important match and everything is still open. I’ve been in Sassuolo’s situation and I know that until you are mathematically safe, you’re still at risk. They’ve got quality and are tough to take on, so we need to focus on results more than style.”

Samp have very few options in attack, because Duvan Zapata and Ricky Alvarez out, with Gianluca Caprari and Fabio Quagliarella not 100 per cent fit.

“Out of four strikers, we’ve got one in good shape and that’s Dawid Kownacki. Dennis Praet needed a while to settle in Serie A, but when you have that kind of quality, it emerges sooner or later. I think he has improved his work off the ball, can be a trequartista and I think in future could also be a playmaker.”

Sampdoria squad for Sassuolo: Belec, Tozzo, Viviano; Andersen, Bereszynski, Ferrari, Regini, Sala, Silvestre, Strinic; Barreto, Capezzi, Linetty, Praet, Ramírez, Torreira, Verre; Caprari, Kownacki, Quagliarella, Stijepovic
