It has been suggested that Emre Can’s proposed move to Juventus was instigated by Liverpool’s reluctance to give the midfielder a release clause.
According to The Mirror, Can ‘demanded a clause be included in any new contract he signs with Liverpool’, but the Reds ‘are refusing to meet his request’.
The newspaper explains it could ‘set a dangerous precedent’, given other players could ask for one, leaving them at risk of losing more of their stars.
Release clauses are not compulsory in Italy or England, while the German Turk is a doubt for the Champions League Final as he recovers from a back injury.
