“Satisfied with the desire we showed to start again. I thought we put in a very good performance, tried to control the game and created many interesting opportunities,” Belotti told Rai Sport.

“Unfortunately, the failure to reach the World Cup is something that continues to hurt, it’s an open wound and everyone knows what happened.

“We must start again and build our self-confidence, which I think is what we saw tonight.

“Everyone knows what a great player Balotelli is. He scored a wonderful goal this evening, put in an excellent performance and can give Italy a big hand.”
