Former Roma goalkeeper Gianluca Curci slams his ex teammate Loris Karius – “not even my nine-year-old son could justify that mistake”.

The Liverpool goalkeeper made two howlers in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, throwing the ball of Karim Benzema and in, before dropping Gareth Bale’s shot into the back of his own net.

“I was his backup,” Curci recalled of his time at Mainz, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb.

“It was a choice of the club above all, because they wanted to raise the value of a player who could have brought the club a lot of money.

“That’s how it went. Karius had a lot of luck, but luck doesn’t always help you.

“As for the Champions League final, he proved he’s not ready for those levels. The error for the third one can happen, he misjudged it, it’s a mistake all goalkeepers can make.

“But the first one, no. Definitely not. Not even my nine-year-old son could justify that mistake.”
