Pepe Reina confirms he will retire at Milan and feels a sense of duty ‘to take them back into the Champions League’.

Reina will become a Milan player as of July 1 after running down his contract with Napoli, and the veteran goalkeeper is relishing an ‘exciting challenge’ at San Siro.

“Milan? They’re one of the most important clubs in the world,” he told AS in his native Spain.

“We have a duty to take them back into the Champions League: it’s an exciting challenge. I’m happy to close my career at Milan: I’ll have to earn my starting position every day, in every training session.

“Ancelotti? I hope Napoli can go back to winning with him, but it’ll be difficult to take the throne away from them if they keep investing.

“I decided to leave Napoli a year ago. PSG made me an offer, but Napoli rejected it: it would’ve been easy, in the summer of ‘medical certificates’, to force a transfer.

“However, I made a Scudetto pact with my team-mates and decided to accept the club’s decision.”
