Napoli turned down Mattia Perin, who then joined Juventus, because “Maurizio Sarri wanted a goalkeeper who was better with his feet.”

The 25-year-old completed his transfer from Genoa to Juve yesterday for €12m plus €3m in performance-related bonuses.

“Napoli had approached us for Perin, but Sarri wanted a goalkeeper who was better with his feet and I didn’t expect the Coach to leave,” confessed Genoa director general Giorgio Perinetti on Radio CRC.

“Juventus were determined in the negotiations and the lad was very happy to go to Turin.”

Now Carlo Ancelotti is at the helm of Napoli, Pepe Reina has joined Milan as a free agent and the Partenopei are still scrambling around for a new shot-stopper.

“Ancelotti is a catalyst for interest around Napoli from international players and his presence can really help them on the market,” added Perinetti.
