Thiago Silva admits he could not say ‘no’ to a second spell with Milan as ‘ending my career there would be beautiful’.

Silva made over 100 appearances for Milan between 2009 and 2012, winning a Scudetto with the Rossoneri, but their need to raise funds saw the defender follow Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain for €42m.

Nonetheless, he told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan are in my heart and will be forever, how could I say ‘no’ to them?”

“It’s never easy to talk about the future, but you can never say never in football. Anything’s possible. Returning, perhaps to end my career, would be beautiful.

“Gattuso? He’s the perfect man for this precise moment in their history. I’m a big [Milan] fan and I follow them with great interest: Italian and European football need a real Milan.

“The road seems long, unfortunately, but certain problems have to be considered when you make lots of changes.

“It’s never easy for the players, the new directors and, above all, the Coach. Rino’s doing a great job, he can really add value.

“He still has that ruthless streak. He’s the same Gattuso: he is gritty, never gives up and uses carrot and stick.”
