A statement on Livorno’s official website confirmed Lucarelli would coach the club next season, but their Twitter account took a cheekier stance, writing ‘there’s only one Cristiano – and we have him!’
The 42-year-old is an Amaranto legend, scoring 92 goals in only 145 appearances for the side between 2003 and 2007, even finishing the 04-05 campaign as Serie A’s Capocannoniere.
He also netted three times in six caps for Italy, as well as turning out for the likes of Torino, Shakhtar Donetsk, Parma and Napoli.
Livorno, for their part, were promoted to Serie B last season after they finished top of their Serie C group.
