Roma exceeded expectations in their first season under Eusebio Di Francesco, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the Champions League semi-finals, but Manolas is confident his side can break more ground in 2018-19.

Roma exceeded expectations in their first season under Eusebio Di Francesco, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the Champions League semi-finals, but Manolas is confident his side can break more ground in 2018-19.

“We’ve had our summer programme, we’ve done it and we’re ready to start again,” he told Roma Radio.

“I see us having a good group, but I want to see everyone working hard and together. This preparation is most important of all.

“Di Francesco? We already know what he wants, surely we’ll work even better this season.

“I’ve received so many messages from the fans, and I thank them for their support. I’m happy to be here, I signed a new contract last year and I’ll do my best for the team.

“I’m convinced that this year will be even better than last year. I’ll try to help all the new faces, they’re humble.

“Some are young and starting a new adventure here at Roma. It won’t be easy because Roma aren’t an easy team to play for.

“They must have the right heads and work hard. It’s not easy to play well here. We’ve also experienced players like Marcano, Santon, Mirante and Cristante.

“I’ll be available to help them. I just want to see all the lads work hard. If not, we won’t meet our objectives.

“Scudetto or Champions League? The League is what you go for every Sunday, it’s your life. In the Champions League, we left expectations to our fans.

“I hope we can give them satisfaction this season. The Champions League is the best competition in the world.

“We’re not afraid of anyone, especially if we have our fans beside us. With the stadium full, it’s tough for anyone coming here.

“Our rivals have strengthened, Inter have had a good market like us, Juve are always Juve and have a strong squad and there’s also Napoli.

“We have to really fight and we’ll see what happens on the field. I’m confident, but it depends on our desire and work.

“We have to do better than last year, although I’m convinced we can do better. We must always improve in every sense.

“I must go home after every training session saying I feel better. I have to improve the way I move the ball.

“I’ve already improved somewhat, but I can do better and I will this year. We’ll have a better season than last because there’s always something to improve on, even if you’re Ronaldo or Messi.

“Scoring another goal like mine against Barcelona? I hope so!”
