Parma will today face an FIGC judgement on alleged text messages sent from Emanuele Calaiò and Fabio Ceravolo to Spezia duo Filippo De Col and Alberto Masi.

Ahead of the game which sealed the Ducali’s promotion, the two players are alleged to have urged their counterparts not to try too hard.

For their part, the club and the players insist that the messages were intended as a joke.

According to this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Calaiò risks a few months of suspension, while his club could be deducted points.

Importantly though the deduction would apply for last season, and anything over one point would see Palermo promoted instead.

However, the Rosanero are under investigation for financial irregularities, with a criminal investigation into owner Maurizio Zamparini for alleged false accounting.

It’s therefore not clear if the Sicilian club would even be able to register for Serie A, so Venezia are also on standby.

Parma aren’t the only ones at risk, as Chievo also face trial today for irregular accounting practices.

The Flying Donkeys are accused of exchanging players with Cesena at many times their real value, creating €25m of fake profit.

That would allow the clubs to present a healthy balance sheet to the FIGC to register for their respective leagues.

Cesena have already been declared bankrupt and will have to start again from Serie D, but Chievo’s top flight status is at risk.

The Veronese side stayed up by five points, so a severe points penalty applied to last season could relegate them.
