Milan technical director Leonardo admits it’s “impossible” to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.

The Rossoneri have been linked with a move for the Serbian, but his price tag means a move to San Siro can’t happen, at least this summer.

“In light of Financial Fair Play we won’t be signing a top midfielder,” Leonardo explained at Paolo Maldini’s presentation Press conference.

“If we can find a way – within the rules – to pull off a miracle and sign a player who will bring a lot to the team then we’ll try to do it. But we may not be able to.

“The deal we already did [for Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara] gives us a lot and stays within the rules, but it’s very difficult to do again.

“FFP says you can spend what you earn, at the moment we’ve spent more than we should have, which could have led us to be out of the Europa League.

“So now we have to be very careful to stick to the rules. To do that we have to increase our revenue and our income. It will take time, it’s not possible to do it immediately.

“Milinkovic-Savic is a dream for many teams, unfortunately right now dreaming about a player who is worth so much is not possible for us.

“Even a year ago when I was asked to choose one Serie A player he was the one I picked. He’s the complete modern midfielder, but it’s not financially possible for us to sign him.”

Diego Perotti told Suso on Instagram to come and play with him at Roma

“I don’t have Instagram… Suso is an essential player for us. He’s shown it, and he’s a key component for the future of our club.

“There are no open talks, no offers have been made and he’ll be staying with us.”

It was reported earlier today that Nikola Kalinic is close to leaving for Atletico Madrid.

“It’s taking some time, but it should go through.

"Adrien Rabiot? He’s a great player, but there’s been no contact at the moment."

Maldini and Leonardo will be working alongside each other, is there any plan to bring in a sporting director too?

“At the minute, everything on the technical side like contracts will be handled by us,” the Brazilian said.

“It’s important to choose someone you can rely on and who you work well with, you can’t just hire someone because there’s a lot of work to be done.

“You need to know how they handle players, agents, other clubs. I’ve always been impressed by Paolo’s consistency, he’s always worked hard at whatever he’s done. You’ve seen him train, and that’s the work ethic we need at the club.

“Reaching our objective is not just about signing players, it’s about how we deal and treat with them.

“When you look at Paolo you see how it should be done. We want serious professionals who want to be here. Maldini has always wanted to be here, and his career tells you everything you need to know.”
