Andrea Pirlo confirms he will not be taking a role with the Italian national team but admits it is ‘not out of my choosing’.

Pirlo had been tipped to become Roberto Mancini’s Italy assistant, but it emerged on Wednesday that his impending commitments for Sky Sport Italia clashed with the position.

“The path of my return to the national team has been interrupted, but not out of my choosing,” the former Milan and Juventus midfielder told ANSA.

Pirlo had been tipped to become Roberto Mancini’s Italy assistant, but it emerged on Wednesday that his impending commitments for Sky Sport Italia clashed with the position.

“The path of my return to the national team has been interrupted, but not out of my choosing,” the former Milan and Juventus midfielder told ANSA.

“The FIGC knew of my commitments with sponsors and non-footballing partners, including my agreement with Sky.

“I also did a coaching course to meet its needs.”
