Torino director of sport Gianluca Petrachi claims the defeat to Roma was “falsified by the referee” and Walter Mazzarri wouldn’t speak for fear of punishment.

The Granata were beaten by a late Edin Dzeko volley, but by that stage Coach Mazzarri had already been sent off for dissent due to a Iago Falque penalty appeal.

“As you can see, Walter Mazzarri is not here because if he had come, he would’ve risked a 10-match ban, so it’s better that the club does the talking,” noted Petrachi in a Press conference.

“I am disappointed to once again state that in the first round of last season, VAR disallowed a perfectly valid goal against Bologna and today the VAR was not used equally.

“The referee opted to check the millimetres of Ola Aina’s foot to disallow our goal for offside, yet didn’t even bother to check it again when we should’ve had a penalty.

“So whatever people may say, in my view, this game was falsified by the referee and I say that with great bitterness. Last season, we were the most penalised by refereeing errors along with SPAL and we’d really be happy just to be treated equally.

“I am sorry that the referee thought it best not to even call up the VAR official and ask if perhaps it was a good idea to look at it again on the monitor to get a better view of a difficult situation, or at least it was difficult for him, not for everyone else who saw it was a penalty.”
