Carlo Ancelotti will face his former player Gennaro Gattuso when Milan take on Napoli, but Ringhio is far from the only player he’s inspired to take up coaching.

Carletto will face the Rossoneri for the first time since he left in 2009, having won two Champions Leagues and the Scudetto in his time at San Siro.

He also left behind a legacy of coaching, as three players who started the 2007 Champions League final have gone on to be Milan Coach.

Clarence Seedorf was the first to take up the mantle, replacing Massimiliano Allegri in January of 2014.

The Dutch midfielder was given to the end of that season, taking charge of a total of 22 matches.

Seedorf managed to win 11 of 19 Serie A games, but his side lost both Champions League Last 16 games to Atletico Madrid, and were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Udinese.

He was then replaced by Filippo Inzaghi, who scored both goals as the Diavolo beat Liverpool in 2007.

He lasted just one season at San Siro, but rebuilt his reputation at Venezia and is now back in Serie A with Bologna.

Gattuso is the third man who started that final to later coach Milan, and Cristian Brocchi, an unused substitute that day, was also in the job for the end of the 2015-16 season.

Massimo Oddo started at right-back in Athens and has been in charge at Pescara and Udinese, while Alessandro Nesta is currently Perugia Coach.

Goalkeeper Dida was assistant to Seedorf at Shenzhen FC, while Andrea Pirlo recently completed an FIGC coaching course.

Other players to have played under Ancelotti before moving into coaching include Antonio Conte, who won three Scudetti with Juventus and the Premier League with Chelsea, Ukraine Coach Andriy Shevchenko and three-time Champions League winner Zinedine Zidane.

Zizou played under Ancelotti for two-and-a-half seasons at Juventus, and was in charge of the Real Madrid youth team when Carletto was on the bench.

Ancelotti also won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2010, and midfielder Frank Lampard is now manager at Derby County.

While the former England international admits he was most influenced by Jose Mourinho, he explained after getting the job that he’d look to emulate Ancelotti’s “incredible” man management.

Jaap Stam, who spent two years under Ancelotti at Milan, has also moved on to the bench, most recently spending two seasons as Reading manager.
