Piatek has already been linked with Napoli after firing seven goals in his first three appearances for Genoa, but Preziosi made it clear on the Grifone’s 125-year anniversary that the striker ‘still has to prove his worth’.

“We’re happy about the wishes from the President [Sergio Mattarella] and we’re pleased that someone [like him] realises that Genoa are the oldest club in Italy,” he told Radio Marte.

“The tragedy of the Morandi bridge, however, prevents us from being very happy. We’re satisfied with this 125-year milestone, but without this tragedy it would’ve been better.

“As for Piatek, History has shown that no deal is possible between Genoa and Napoli, so we can’t be buyers or sellers with them.

“Piatek’s an important player for Genoa, but he still has to prove his worth.”
