Milan President Paolo Scaroni has confirmed that talks with Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis are ‘ongoing’.
Gazidis has been linked with Milan ever since Elliott Management’s takeover of the club, and Scaroni spoke of his optimism at a deal being struck with the Greek-South African.
“Gattuso must be calm, but I don’t think he feels worked up,” he continued to Corriere della Sera.
“He’s my Coach because he’s done well. I also like him because he treats his job with complete sincerity.
“He has this air that lets everyone with him know that there’s nothing to laugh about. I’ve found him to be great
“Negotiations with Gazidis are ongoing. The process of selecting a CEO must be done well and calmly.
“Whenever there’s any slowdown, I can reassure everyone by saying that in the meantime I’m here.
“I spend half of my time here, I put everything into this role. The CEO must have a profile that is in line with our objectives.
“The first is to increase revenue. It’s the starting point: if we raised €800m, we could afford Ronaldo.”
The 71-year-old was also asked about whether the Diavolo would reach a settlement or voluntary agreement with UEFA, as well as ‘inexplicable’ predecessor Li Yonghong.
“Meanwhile, we move into unknown territory. There are no precedents similar to ours,” he added.
“We have a problem with the past because our breach was with relation to the pre-Chinese budgets.
“Now UEFA is awaiting the motivation of CAS, which said a fair punishment should be given. I hope it’s as small as possible.
“Then there’s the three-year period that starts from 2017-2018, for which Milan will have to provide a credible plan. We’re getting ready for it.
“Li Yonghong’s behaviour was inexplicable: he was a gentleman who drew up a plan and didn’t honour it.
“He’s a question mark who got away and perhaps will never be seen again. I’ve only seen him three times in my life, but I’ve never talked to him because he only knows Cantonese.”
