UEFA have officially confirmed they’ve opened disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo for his red card in Juventus’ win over Valencia.
The Portuguese was sent off after 29 minutes of the match, after referee Felix Brych and the goalline assistant deemed he had pulled the hair of defender Jeison Murillo.
A red card incurs a one-match ban, while the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body can impose further punishment if his offence is deemed serious enough.

Today UEFA has confirmed “proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Valencia CF and Juventus Football Club (0-2), played on 19 September in Spain”.
The charges are against Cristiano Ronaldo for “a direct red card” and the case will be dealt with on September 27.
This is standard procedure and doesn’t mean that CR7 will be given an additional suspension, as anyone who is sent off for violent conduct has proceedings opened against them.
It has been reported that Juventus will try to appeal the red card, but winning that will be very difficult as they’ll have to prove an “obvious error”.
