France Football has announced that the Ballon d’Or will be complemented by two new awards.

As well as the most-coveted award in world football being handed out on December 3, it will be joined by a prize for the best female of the past year, as well as the Kopa Trophy for the best Under-21 player.

The latter is named after France and Real Madrid legend Raymond Kopa, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1958.

It will be decided by 33 Ballon d’Or recipients, including ex-Serie A stars Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Marco Van Basten, Zinedine Zidane, Pavel Nedved and Kaka, as well as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has won the last two Ballon d’Ors but may not defend his crown, given the Juventus forward is unlikely to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player accolade on Monday.
