Mauro Icardi feels Inter “allowed Fiorentina too much space,” but he was never concerned by the goal drought.

“I don’t know if we’re becoming more mature, but we are working to improve,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia after a 2-1 victory.

“We allowed Fiorentina too much space and risked on a few counter-attacks. We have the players to score goals, but we all need to improve when it comes to defending as a team.”

This was Icardi’s first Serie A goal of the season, having already found the net in the Champions League.

“Social media and those in the press talk too much. I didn’t score for four Serie A games and they start stirring up trouble, but I have 120 Serie A goals behind me, so I’m not worried.”

Icardi was also asked if there was an update on his contract negotiations with Inter.

“Every year this happens. I am calm, I continue doing my job. My wife and the club have to talk, then if my contract has to be improved, then they’ll sort it out.”
