“This is a fascinating game to prepare and take part in, because Milan like to play good football and their results so far haven’t reflected the performances,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Milan have so many elements we ought to be concerned about, from the individuals to their organisation and motivation to make up for recent results. They deserve to be higher up the table and I think in the long run they will be there. Hopefully that revival won’t start against us.

“It is still Milan and must be respected, because the DNA of this club is to never give up.”

Sassuolo are the surprise outfit of the season so far, sitting pretty in third place going into this weekend and even able to beat SPAL despite resting Kevin-Prince Boateng.

“The credit goes to the players, who are training well and giving me the opportunity to make changes. My job is to get the best out of this squad without wasting any potential. When a Coach sees this team spirit, unity of intent and desire to put the objective above all else, he can only be happy.”

De Zerbi had many ups and downs as a tactician, including dismissal by Palermo and being unable to turn around a disastrous Benevento campaign, even if last season he did take four points off Milan home and away.

“I don’t have grey hair yet, but I do have enough experience to know that all it takes is two defeats or bad performances to see you plummet right back to earth.”

Alfred Duncan and Federico Peluso are still out of action, but Manuel Locatelli, Boateng and Alessandro Matri face their former club.

Sassuolo squad for Milan: Turati, Consigli, Pegolo; Marlon, Lemos, Rogerio, Sernicola, Lirola, Magnani, Ferrari, Dell'Orco, Adjapong; Magnanelli, Djuricic, Sensi, Bourabia, Locatelli; Matri, Boga, Berardi, Boateng, Babacar, Di Francesco, Brignola
