Jose Mourinho is reportedly urging Manchester United to buy a young centre-back, with Inter’s Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli of Milan on the shortlist.

The Portuguese is under pressure at Old Trafford, and there were even rumours that he’d be sacked at the weekend.

That was denied by the club, and the Red Devils came back from 2-0 down to beat Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

Now ESPN is reporting that Mourinho is demanding that the club back him in the January transfer window, by recruiting a centre-back.

The board were reluctant to sanction summer moves for Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng or Diego Godin in the summer, in part due to their ages.

Mourinho is therefore hoping they will make a move for a younger defender, and two names at the top of the shortlist are Skriniar and Romagnoli.

Both players have long contracts at San Siro and wouldn’t come cheap, though Skriniar is still to sign an improved deal with the Nerazzurri.
