Genoa’s sporting director has ‘accredited many scouts and directors’ who want to watch Krzysztof Piatek but insists ‘our fans will enjoy him until June’.

Piatek’s run of 13 goals in just eight games for Genoa has seen him linked with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but while Giorgio Perinetti accepted the striker was attracting interest, he made it clear the Grifone were not ready to sell up.

“Piatek is unlike anyone else I’ve worked with,” he told Tuttosport.

“He reminds me of the great strikers of the 60s and 70s: he scores lots of goals but says only a few words.

“I was amazed by his calmness, especially as he’s been at the centre of media attention more or less every day.

“I was struck by his maturity. He seems to live inside a bubble. He’s a healthy lad and he isn’t distracted by anything. He lives for the next goal.

“A surprise? Not exactly. We realised very early on that he was a real striker. He’s started in a great way, but we’re still at the start.

“After the international break we’ll be facing Juventus, in what is the first game of a tough run of fixtures, where Piatek will test himself against even higher obstacles.

“We’re also curious to see how he does at a greater level of difficulty. There are no goal bonuses in your contract, although it’s normal to reward a player when they’re doing well.

“We’ll see, but for now it’s too early to say. Is there a risk with the change of Coach? No, we’re talking about a lad who has goals in his DNA.

“All the goals he’s scored haven’t come by chance, but he should be left alone. He’s only 23 years old and he has significant room for growth.

“He doesn’t just have a better shot than other players, he has many other traits. He’s special, but let’s say that his best quality is his innate gift of ghosting and then reappearing in the box.

“Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund? We’ve accredited many scouts and directors of German and Spanish clubs recently, while all the big Serie A clubs have made enquiries.

“However, like President Preziosi said, Genoa’s fans will enjoy Piatek until June. He doesn’t have a price as we still have to work out Piatek’s margin for growth.

“The price will reflect the various offers we receive, as well the competition.”
