Genoa Coach Ivan Juric believes they “didn’t have the physical or mental strength to take on Inter” after a 5-0 thrashing.

The Grifone played at San Siro on Wednesday evening and were only beaten 2-1 by Milan in stoppages for a rescheduled Week 1 fixture.

Their second trip to this arena in three days was less impressive, comprehensively swept aside 5-0 by Inter.

“We just didn’t have enough energy to really compete with Inter,” Juric told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was our third game in six days, we were coming off a really disappointing result against Milan and had very little fuel left in the tank.

“We had started well enough, but gifted them two goals and it all became more difficult against a strong side like Inter. Now we’ve got to hit the reset button and start again. Today we just didn’t have the physical or mental strength to take on a side like Inter.”

Considering Juric has picked up one point from three games since replacing popular Coach Davide Ballardini, is he at risk?

“The President is aware of the situation, we analysed everything calmly, looking at the positive and negative aspects.”

Juric took a huge risk by leaving Capocannoniere Krzysztof Piatek on the bench in favour of Goran Pandev.

“Piatek needed a rest and couldn’t play another 95 minutes. He is a strong player and we’re in a very tough period of the fixture list right now, but I am convinced even after this 5-0 defeat that these lads can grow.”
